da bet7k: Liverpool are heavy favourites to maintain their impressive record of dominance over Everton in this weekend’s Merseyside derby. However, Jurgen Klopp will know that they can’t afford to rest on their laurels or show any complacency when the Toffees come to Anfield.
Marco Silva, meanwhile, with his underdog squad, will be hoping to out-do his opponent tactically by targeting one of the few weaknesses in the Liverpool team.
On the chalkboard
The Reds have been impressively solid at the back so far this season, having only conceded five goals. They’ve made huge strides in this area of the pitch since the previous campaign.

However, Liverpool’s back line is still a work in progress and Everton can take pointers from how PSG recently set about exploiting one of the few frailties in Klopp’s defence – the right-back position.
Both Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold are hugely talented and promising young players. At this stage, though, they can both be targeted and will struggle to cope under sustained pressure. Now, in Richarlison, Everton have a player of the requisite quality to reproduce the kind of assault that the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe recently launched on the Reds’ right-back.
The Brazilian way
With either Gomez or Alexander-Arnold at right-back, their inexperience and issues with positioning can be preyed upon. Richarlison himself is quick enough to evade the recovery pace that so often comes to the young England internationals’ rescue.
In their Brazilian summer signing, Everton have finally have a player of sufficient quality to frighten Liverpool. Combined with the in-form Gylfi Sigurdsson’s creativity, the Toffees have an opportunity to overcome their derby day barren run if they’re bold enough to take the game to Liverpool.
