Mbappe made a point of shushing the home support, as he celebrated in front of them, and has been criticised for his inflammatory behaviour when more is expected of him as captain of the France national team.

Mbappe has refused to accept that he acted out of line, with the prolific 24-year-old forward responding to one journalist that called him out by saying on social media: “Well of course I should have sang with them when they insulted my team-mate. Some have really never set foot on a football field regardless of the level….”
