da imperador bet: The January transfer window will certainly prove a significant period for every single team operating among the English top-flight this season – but in the case of Jurgen Klopp and his current Reds outfit in particular – the chance to sign a handful of fresh new faces will potentially become more important than ever before.
da cassino: Whilst the winter window very rarely manages to encapsulate the same level of excitement and last minute drama as its more coveted counterpart in the summer, Liverpool’s decision not to sack Brendan Rodgers before the 2015/16 campaign even got underway, gives the month of January a whole new meaning at Anfield. It represents Klopp’s first chance of signing his own specifically selected talent on Merseyside, rather than making do with the current squad largely built by his inept predecessor.
In correlation with such a notion, the Reds have most recently been linked with current Barcelona shot-stopper and German international – Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The former Borussia Monchengladbach man has most likely been singled out due to the 23-year-old sharing the same nationality as the current Liverpool manager, but that doesn’t mean that Reds fans should dismiss such a link without giving it due consideration…

So, should Liverpool launch some determined new strides in trying to sign the up and coming goal-keeper this January, or is this particular deal never all that likely to get off the ground in the first place?
Well, as the player in question currently goes about his business with a reported £56.7million release clause hanging over his head, maybe the most financially conscious Liverpool supporters out there should ultimately choose to look away now. Marc-Andre ter Stegen is a Barcelona player after all – even their substitutes and reserves don’t come cheap. Although the world is yet to truly witness the full extent of the 23-year-old’s expertise between the sticks, the rapidly emerging German international still has a great deal going for him within the grand scheme of things.
The young ‘keeper has become somewhat notorious of late for his sheer flexibility when it comes to shot-stopping in one-on-one situations. As if acting as the spiritual successor to Manuel Neuer among the German national team, ter Stegen can make himself big between the sticks at almost at the drop of a hat, command his box with ease via some strong catching ability during aerial battles – and when it comes to quick distribution and the vision to find space outside the realm of his penalty box – this young man very rarely disappoints.
Yes, the current Barcelona ‘keeper does in-fact have it in him to make the odd howler here and there, but as the same level of unpredictability can also be found among Manuel Neuer’s game from time to time – perhaps such an aspect is but a mere shortcoming to the overall strength of German goal-keepers on the whole. Even with such a notion on board, both shot-stoppers remain rather impressive to say the very least.
So then, at this stage in the proceedings it seems as if Liverpool wouldn’t stand a chance of signing ter Stegen, despite the many transfer stories linking Jurgen Klopp’s side to the 23-year-old this winter. He simply looks like an unattainable asset for the Reds with all things considered, so maybe the Anfield faithful should cast their collective expectations elsewhere for now…
However, because Marc-Andre ter Stegen is still considered a back-up option behind current Barcelona first choice – Claudio Bravo – maybe there is hope for Liverpool on this one after all. Despite receiving a lot of game time among the Champions League for Luis Enrique’s side this term, the young German ‘keeper just doesn’t get as much first team domestic action as one would perhaps expect from someone of his overall ability.
He’ll still likely cost a great deal in all honesty, as Barcelona are clearly trying to turn the 23-year-old into their undisputed first choice goal-keeper a few years down the line – but if Liverpool can tempt the former Borussia Monchengladbach man this January with a decent little offer – maybe ter Stegen will be departing the safety of the Nou Camp far sooner than most anticipated.
If the Reds can knock down Barcelona’s reported asking price somewhat in the run up to the January transfer window, this particular deal may well have the potential to take place yet. Lord knows Liverpool could do with a sharp update on Simon Mignolet.
