Speaking after the game against Watford, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola hailed Kevin De Bruyne as a “special player”.
What did he say?
The Belgium international delivered a midfield masterclass against the Hornets on Saturday, picking up two assists before getting onto the score-sheet himself.
After watching the former Chelsea man run the show, Guardiola lauded the 28-year-old’s abilities, and insisted he can produce things nobody else can.

He said (as quoted by the club’s official website): “Kevin sometimes is a special player. He sees things others cannot see on the pitch, or even off the pitch. Sometimes he frustrates me when he loses simple balls. How can he lose it with his quality?
“But he is an incredibly talented player, with his vision up front and the quality of his shooting. With Kevin it depends on his mood. Sometimes it is low but when he is happy, he’s an incredible, fantastic player. We missed him a lot. We had an incredible season, winning four titles, but we missed him a lot. He’s a special player. I’m happy he is here.”
Game-changer
Make no mistake, a fully-fit and firing De Bruyne makes a huge difference to City. The 28-year-old’s creativity and vision is unrivalled even amongst the Manchester side’s plethora of attacking talents, with his performance against Watford simply highlighting that.
As well as his goal contributions, De Bruyne registered a game-high eight key passes – double that of the entire Watford team put together. In games against the top sides that require a piece of magic to claim all three points, the Belgian will be someone City will undoubtedly turn to more often than not.

Keeping him on the football pitch and away from the treatment table may be the key to Guardiola’s side retaining their Premier League title, and clinching European glory too.
